Marc Hammer wins at German triple triumph

Starnberg Open 2020

In the end, the Starnberg Open 2020 was firmly in German hands: Top amateur Marc Hammer, member of the National Team Germany, secured himself the winner's trophy on the fast greens of GC Starnberg after scoring rounds of 66, 64 and 67 with a total 16 under par. This finally gave him a one stroke advantage over German professional Thomas Rosenmüller and Leon Breimer, another German amateur, who both shared 2nd place with 15 under par.

Starnberg - "It was great to play in the last group today! I felt very comfortable from the start," said Marc Hammer, who was 12 under par after 36 holes and shared first place with local hero Jonas Kölbing. After Kölbing made two double bogeys on the front nine Hammer was able to take an early lead. His toughest rivals for victory were now Leon Breimer and Thomas Rosenmüller; this trio took turns at the top of the leaderboard. But when Breimer and Rosenmüller both bogeyd the 18th they missed the playoff and paved the way for Marc Hammer to win the tournament.

"It was fun to create birdie chances on this great course and then to be able to transform them on these fast, true greens," said Hammer. “Today I hit all greens and had very precise drives. I also had the speed of the greens under control,” said the winner. "The tournament shows that I am on the right track and that I can win." However, the move to a professional carrer is not planned before 2022: "Next year I will definitely still play as an amateur."

The next tournament of the Pro Golf Tour takes place from August 28th to 30th in the Czech Republic. The ALTERPRO Trophy by Extec is endowed with 40,000 euros in prize money.
