Rookie Carstensen triumphs in Casablanca

Open Casa Green Golf 2017

German Tour Rookie Christopher Carstensen is the winner of the 2017 Open Casa Green Golf in Morocco. The 24 year old from Hamburg shot a final round 67 on Friday to complete his tournament with a total 15 under par (66+68+67). This finally gave him a two shot lead over his fellow countryman Patrick Kopp, local hero Ahmed Marjane, Stanislas Gautier from France and Pedro Figueiredo (Portugal) who all shared second place with 13 under par.

Casablanca/Morocco – Last week, at the Open The Tony Jacklin, Christopher Carstensen struggled as wind forced him to only score a 74 on the final day, finishing the event as shared 25th. But already on his second appearance as a tour-professional Carstensen couldn’t be stopped by any of his opponents: With rounds of 66, 68 and on the third day 67 the 23-year-old secured himself not only the first trophy of his professional career but also 5000 Euro prize money and as much ranking points.

“I just played very good at this tournament, especially my long game worked pretty well. When the first six holes didn’t work out as I hoped they would, I got a little nervous. But from then on I was able to score important putts”, the man from Hamburg said after his success.

At mild pre-summer temperatures the participants of the Open Casa Green Golf enjoyed playing on the beautiful par-72-course of the Casa Green Golf Club in Casablanca, and also Carstensen took good use of the weather: “The golf course is great and in good shape! To play here with such a fantastic weather is great fun.”

Carstensen has already set himself his aims for this seasons: Finishing in the Top 5 of the Order of Merit and promoting to the European Challenge Tour. Even though it will be very hard to achieve this: “The tour is on a very, very high level. When we had to play with fog surrounding and heavy wind distracting us, some players shot very low scores. That really impressed me.”

The Pro Golf Tour continues on March 2, as the players start into the first round of the Open Madaef, the third out of six Morocco-events of the tour in 2017.
