Bobingen-Burgwalden − With a solid round 71 on the first day of the 2014 Augsburg Classic the young German had created the base of his success. After 36 holes Kannler took the lead with 7 under par having signed brilliant 66 shots after his second round – a score that finally turned out to be the best result of the whole tournament. The German made eight birdies on Tuesday and only two bogeys. And yet he himself was sure that his final round 67 on Wednesday which made him the champion of the fourth last tournament of the 2014 season and gave him a four shot lead over Marek Novy from the Czech Republic was even better than this previous 66: “I got my confidence back and my believe into my long game”, Kannler said after signing his score card which secured him the trophy and a winner’s cheque of 5000 euro. “I hit 17 greens today what makes me very happy!”

Being an expert in the long shots Kannler had struggled a little bit with his game at the beginning of the season. He tried to qualify for the Asian Tour but did not reach this goal. When the Pro Golf Tour came back to Europe in May also Kannler was with his colleagues again. And in Augsburg, where he had missed the cut last year, he found also back to his strength on the golf course. And he strictly kept onto his game plan: “I was sure to only have a chance to win when I kept playing very aggressive“, the golf professional from Marktl am Inn said, a little village in Bavaria which is also the hometown of former pope Benedikt XVI.

Whilst Kannler despite his victory and moving up from 96th to 25th place of the Pro Golf Tour Order of Merit has only very little chance to make it into the top 4 what by the end of the season provides playing rights on the 2015 European Challenge Tour, for those who are within the top 10 at the moment the decisive weeks of the season have begun. At this time it is four Germans on the four qualifying spots: Marcel Schneider, Sean Einhaus, Max Kramer and Alexander Knappe.

But with three more events to go and the last one, the Deutsche Bank Polish Masters Pro Golf Tour Championship offering a total prize money of 40,000 euro nothing is yet decided. From Frenchman David Antonelli who is only some 2000 euro behind Knappe on 5th place down to even positions between 15 and 20 in the rankings quite a few players do still have a chance to make it into the top 4. One or two victories provided. Next chance to happily lift a winner’s trophy into a hopefully blue sky: the inaugural “Gut Bissenmoor Classic” which takes part August 26 to 31 in Bad Bramstedt in the very north of Germany.
