Casablanca: Moritz Lampert triumphs in style

Open Madaef Golfs 2019

With three strong tournament rounds, a total of 17 under par and a lead of three strokes over Dutchman Max Albertus in second place, Moritz Lampert secured the title of Open Madaef Golfs 2019. The German celebrated a convincing victory from start to finish and gained new self-confidence in Casa Green Golf Club in Morocco.

Casablanca/Morocco – "I am extremely satisfied! This success gives me a really big boost, this is a very emotional moment!" Moritz Lampert ecstatically raised the Open Madaef Golfs 2019 trophy and celebrated his sporting comeback after an almost two-year dry spell. “Nothing's really gone very well for me over the last two years. I just played pretty badly. I changed a few things last autumn and that obviously did me a lot of good," says Lampert. After eight years of working together, he parted company with his coach Ted Long and also changed his management agency. Mainly, he says, to get new inspiration: "It was just time to do something different." The victory in Casablanca is therefore "above all a success for my new team," says the champion, who is now coached by Ian Holloway, the man who also mentors European Tour player Maximilian Kieffer. Lampert states: “This success has now come very quickly. Above all, I was pleasantly surprised by how well my technique worked here and how calmly I handled the psychological pressure this week."

In fact, Moritz Lampert was impressive from day one when he signed a flawless 64 round with eight birdies and took the lead. He consistently exploited his birdie opportunities on the challenging course at the Casa Green Golf Club with difficult flag positions, thick rough and fast greens. This did not change on days 2 and 3 – Lampert did not lose the lead even once.

Another flawless round

While the 26-year-old confidently wrapped up the title on the final day with another flawless round, the Dutchman Max Albertus and German Jonas Kölbing secured the 2nd and 3rd podium positions with excellent play. "A very nice tournament on a really good golf course. What the Pro Golf Tour regularly achieves here in Morocco is something you simply have to take your hat off to," says Lampert, who is now highly motivated for the next tournaments.

He and his tour colleagues will be teeing off again on Thursday, when the first round of the Open Royal Golf Anfa Mohammedia 2019 is scheduled in Morocco's Mohammedia. The battle is then on again for the 30,000 Euro prize money and just as many points for the Pro Golf Tour Order of Merit.
