Golfing amidst a beautiful nature with a view over the lake and mountains

Golfing in StarnbergAmmersee

You never drive longer than half an hour: If you are on holiday at Lake Starnberg, you have twelve golf courses to choose from within a radius of just 25 kilometers. In front of a splendid panorama, the golfers can expect some of the most beautiful golf courses of the country. Thus, the region between the state capital Munich and the Alps has the highest golf course density in Germany.

And so more and more vacationers are working on their handicap on the twelve first-class courses in the southwest of Munich - in sporty, mostly challenging terrain due to the courses’ locations, embedded in the hilly moraine landscape of the Alpine foothills. On Gut Rieden Golf Course, the first nine courses are rather flat, but then it gets hilly, where well-placed bunkers and water hazards require some strategy. For those who want and need to concentrate, it is better to enjoy the beautiful panorama over Lake Starnberg in the clubhouse after finishing the course.

In Tutzing, with its short distances from fairway to fairway and the gigantic view of the Wetterstein and Karwendel mountains, idyllic ponds and creeks defend the courses’ greens. The 18-hole championship course Iffeldorf extends over a total of 104 hectares and is pervaded by ancient oak trees, small forests, lakes and biotopes and is therefore even challenging for golf experts. Particularly remarkable is the Golfclub Hohenpähl, which blends harmoniously into the natural landscape with lots of old trees, gushing creeks and idyllic ponds on the hill between Lake Starnberg and Ammersee and has already been awarded various environmental prizes. For professional soccer player and amateur golfer Thomas Müller, it is the absolute favorite golf course in StarnbergAmmersee. He himself lived in Pähl before starting his career and has been playing golf since 2012, now with Handicap 6.

The Golf Club Starnberg is hosting the Pro Golf Tour from the 15th to the 18th of August this year. The tour, which originated in 1997, is already making a guest appearance in Starnberg for the second time, where the ProAM will begin on Wednesday, August 15th. On the following days, the professionals will detect the champion of the tournament in three rounds. Admission is free.
