Westwoud, Netherlands – Clement Guichard was in a class of his own this week at the Staan Open in Westwoud. Even though the final round on Saturday became exciting again when local hero Mike Toorop staged an impressive birdie comeback and Guichard had to relinquish the lead, the Frenchman simply responded with some superb golf. Thanks in part to a chip-in for eagle on the 15th, he strolled confidently to the title at the Westfriese Golf Club in the north of the Netherlands. Toorop had to settle for a shared second place at his home event.

“It felt like a practice round.”
The 24-year-old Guichard had already set the pace with two rounds of 65 at the start of the tournament. He went into the final with a one-stroke lead. It was a situation he was already familiar with from the Ain Bay Red Sea Open four months ago. Back then, he was involved in a thrilling title battle with Timo Vahlenkamp in Egypt, where he won his first Pro Golf Tour title after a nervous start in the playoff. This week, there was neither nervousness nor tension in play. “The round felt like a practice round,” said Guichard after a 64 (-7) on the final day of the Staan Open. “I was very relaxed and had my friend Mathis Pansart on the bag. It was a perfect day.”

By the time he chipped in from 35 meters on the 15th hole (par 5), Guichard knew that his second victory of the season was his – and with it, probably promotion to the HotelPlanner Tour. “I'm very happy because I think this is the victory that will take me to the HotelPlanner Tour. That was my goal this season.” With this title win, his eighth top-ten finish, Guichard takes the lead in the Order of Merit. With four events remaining, this is a good starting position. For Guichard, it would be his second promotion after 2023, when he finished third in the Order of Merit.

“It's crazy how much support there was”

Guichard already knew that he felt at home at the Westfriese Golf Club. Two years ago, he came second here. Even though he couldn't remember the course very well, he was aware of what made this tournament so special: "It's crazy how much support there was on the course. Just looking for a ball is a big help." He also said that he had never played on greens as hard as those at Golfbaan Westwoud on the Pro Golf Tour. In general, the entire course was once again in top condition.

The Staan Open was the first of three events in the Dutch Swing, which has something special in store for the third year in a row. The winner of the internal special ranking will receive a starting place at the KLM Open 2026 – another incentive for Guichard to continue playing at his current level in the coming weeks. In addition, a third victory would take him directly to the HotelPlanner Tour. Behind Guichard, Toorop, his compatriot Tim van der Steen, and Germans Lukas Gras, Nils Dobrunz, and Nicolas Horder shared second place.

Michael Hirmer (Germany), Lars van der Vight (Netherlands), Filip Mruzek (Czech Republic), and Horder complete the top five in the Order of Merit.
