Second PGT win for amateur Nick Bachem

Red Sea Ain Sokhna Classic 2021

Nick Bachem, member of Golf Team Germany and reigning Vice European Amateur Champion, secures the Red Sea Ain Sokhna Classic title. The 21-year-old sports soldier won on the course at Sokhna Golf Club in Egypt with rounds of 66, 67 and 70 strokes, beating Belgian Kristof Ulenaers (66, 71, 68/-11) by two strokes with 13 under par. After 54 holes Benedict Staben from Germany, Luca Galliano from Switzerland and Mathis Pansart from France shared 3rd place with 9 under par.

Ain Sokhna/Egypt – It is not the first time that the German top amateur Nick Bachem has won a tournament on the Pro Golf Tour: In the 2020 season, he won the Open Golf Royal Anfa Mohammedia in Morocco and made the cut as well as good finishes in other tournaments. The actual plan at that time was to turn professional after the team as well as the individual European Championships in 2020. He won the European Championship title for the first time with the German team, and shortly afterwards he became Vice European Champion in the individuals. Nevertheless, he postponed his leap to join the pros – due to the pandemic.

“This winter it was certainly difficult for all the players to prepare adequately – we had comparatively good opportunities at the Bundesleistungszentrum (German Federal Training Centre) in St. Leon-Rot,” said Nick Bachem. The team worked a lot on the psychological aspect in particular, and therefore took the good form from last year into the new season. Bachem: “It was very tiring today with the wind, but I was very focused on the moment and I’m glad it was enough for the win.”

15 birdies and two eagles

The player from the Marienburger Golf-Club once again impressively proved in Egypt that he can keep up with the professionals: after equally long and precise tee shots, he often only had a small iron onto the green, circled the ball close to the flag just as frequently and turned them into a birdie 15 times in total, and into an eagle twice. The championship course at Sokhna Golf Club once again proved to be an excellent terrain for a competition that was as demanding as it was fair, with greens and fairways in excellent condition throughout. The Pro Golf Tour celebrated a successful start to the 2021 season in Ain Sokhna on the Red Sea in Egypt with two successful tournaments.

The Pro Golf Tour players are now travelling back to Europe, where the Haugschlag NÖ Open by perfect eagle is scheduled for 28 to 30 April. Another 30,000 euros in prize money and Order of Merit points are at stake at the traditional tournament in the Austrian Waldviertel. The defending champion is Jeremy Freiburghaus from Switzerland, who has also entered the tournament, as have the two previous winners of the 2021 season, Mateusz Gradecki (Poland) and Nick Bachem; incidentally, the German is also the new number 1 in the Pro Golf Tour rankings.
